Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services. Candidates who are selected for ESE are appointed as Assistant Executive Engineer in various departments under central government for Group A and Group B posts. A degree in engineering from a recognized university or equivalent are eligible. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are also eligible. Further, final year students of BE/BTech/MCA/MSc (Maths/Physics/Chemistry) courses either full/part time are also eligible.

Any engineering student who is 21 years old can give the exam upto 30 years of age (1st August of Examination Year). Students who belong to SC, ST, & OBC categories and certain departmental candidates are exempted from this clause.

There is NO limit on number of attempts one should make.

GATE score is valid for 3 years.
