Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services. The examination constitutes of a two stage written examination followed by an interview. ESE is considered to be one of the toughest examinations in India due to the difficulty related to its selection procedure. Candidates who are selected for ESE are appointed as Assistant Executive Engineer in various departments under central government for Group A and Group B posts. What is the eligibility criteria for GATE ?

A degree in engineering from a recognized university or equivalent are eligible. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are also eligible. Further, final year students of BE/BTech/MCA/MSc (Maths/Physics/Chemistry) courses either full/part time are also eligible.

Is there any age limit for GATE ?

Any engineering student who is 21 years old can give the exam upto 30 years of age (1st August of Examination Year). Students who belong to SC, ST, & OBC categories and certain departmental candidates are exempted from this clause.

How many attempts am I allowed for GATE?

There is NO limit on number of attempts one should make.

For how long is the GATE score valid?

GATE score is valid for 3 years.
